allied health building
pasco-hernando community college, FLorida
Located on a narrow site fronting the existing campus quadrangle of Pasco-Hernando Community College, this three story, 70,000 square foot facility houses the various health science programs offered by the college. At the center of the structure is a tropical courtyard ringed by a three level arcade. The courtyard and arcade provide an enjoyable open air gathering space and circulation system that enables natural light to enter the center portion of the building. Other unique features are the buildings two distinct but equally important entry facades. The front façade welcomes students from the universities pedestrian quadrangle while the rear receives commuters arriving by automobile. This rear elevation is marked by a monumental stair tower, which acts both as a campus landmark and orienting element for individuals entering from the parking area.
